Survive a Million Monkeys Beginner Guide
Finish the tutorial, choose an available class and gun, and learn the movement habits that give your first horde run a better start.
For your first Survive a Million Monkeys session, finish the tutorial, collect eligible lobby rewards, choose an available class, and enter the fight with a gun you can already use. Your first goal is to keep an escape route open while shooting the approaching horde, rather than buy a complicated loadout before you understand the movement.
Finish the tutorial before lobby errands
Follow the tutorial through to the lobby. The Codes button belongs to that lobby flow, so searching for it during the tutorial delays the part you need to finish first. Once you reach the lobby, you can handle rewards before turning to class purchases.
This walkthrough includes the tutorial and lobby reward interfaces. Watch the sequence if you are having trouble connecting the first fight with the lobby screens.
Open Codes in the upper-right corner, paste a code from the site's Codes list, and press the green checkmark. A code reward goes toward your Gems balance; it is separate from simply completing the tutorial. Claim any community gift only after meeting the conditions shown for that gift. You do not need to turn every reward into a purchase immediately.
Choose a class and use a gun you have
Class choice and gun unlocks are both part of the game's survival loop. Start with a class that is available to you, rather than spending your whole balance just to copy a ranking. Use the classes guide when you want to understand the roster, and the unlock guide when you are ready to buy another option.
Before joining combat, make sure you have selected the gun you intend to fire. Learning how that gun handles approaching monkeys gives you a useful baseline for the next purchase. A different name or a higher position in an editorial tier list is not enough reason to abandon a weapon you understand.
| Before the first run | Ready when |
|---|---|
| Finish the tutorial | You have reached the lobby rather than searching its menus during training. |
| Handle eligible rewards | You have claimed them or deliberately left them for later. |
| Choose an available class | You know which class you are taking into the fight. |
| Select your gun | You can identify the weapon you will use against the approaching horde. |
Keep room to move during the fight
Monkeys close in from multiple directions. Move through open space while firing, and look ahead often enough to avoid backing into a wall or another pack. Waiting until enemies surround you makes the next movement decision much harder.
Deal with the monkey threatening your route before chasing a distant target. If your current position is getting crowded, move while a gap still exists; holding the same patch of ground is not a requirement of the survival objective. With friends, call the direction you are moving so the group can leave before it splits into separate escapes.
Weapon unlocks give you more choices as you progress, but they do not remove the need for space. The weapons guide explains the gun options separately from class spending.
Give the next run one clear improvement
After a run ends, identify the problem that actually stopped you. Getting surrounded calls for earlier movement; misunderstanding your class calls for learning that choice; lacking a gun you want calls for its own unlock plan. This keeps your next action tied to a real obstacle instead of changing everything at once.
The survivor leaderboard is a longer-term goal. Start by getting comfortable with the fight rather than assuming a specific wave number or time guarantees a ranking; the leaderboard guide explains that distinction.
FAQ
Is this beginner guide a free-rewards route?
It includes the lobby step where you can redeem eligible codes. It does not promise an unlimited Gems method or a free unlock of every class.
Should I buy a class before my first real run?
You can begin with an available class and save the purchase for when you know the role you want. A first run gives that decision a clearer purpose.
